Pitkin County finalizes three ballot issues

The Pitkin Board of County Commissioners finalized language for three ballot issues, setting up a solid slate of county- and citizen-sponsored questions for the Nov. 5 election.

The approved ballot questions cover funding to expand the Pitkin County Solid Waste Center, a new property tax for a dedicated affordable housing fund and a citizen-proposed question to amend the county’s governing document to strip the board’s authority to expand or relocate the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport runway without voter consent.

Commissioners also considered their own Home Rule Charter amendment, which aims to “reaffirm” their “existing authority” to make layout decisions at the airport. The board made amendments to the ballot language after a closed-door executive session and continued a vote on the language with public comment to Tuesday.
